The Shoal Hotel La Jolla Beach

A good choice if budget is a factor. This motel-style hotel is in a very good location in La Jolla. We were satisfied. The pictures on booking.com are a bit better than in reality, but the room is quite good and very clean. The bed was perhaps a little too soft, but we still slept well. The hotel is a bit noisy, so loud conversations in the neighboring room are clearly audible. The property, however, appears to be very well maintained. No breakfast, but coffee was always available at the reception.

So close to Windansea beach! Great location as well to restaurants, bars etc. we had a car rental so can only say it was a short drive for these places, can't give a walking score. The rooms were very clean and I appreciated the nice soap,shampoo, conditioner, body wash that was offered. The front desk staff were very lovely to deal with! There is a hot tub and heated pool on site but we didn't use them, however they did look clean!

Location was perfect not only to WindnSea Beach but also for restaurants, coffee or a stroll. Yes, it's possible to do that in LaJolla. The rooms were nicely done, the beds so comfortable and the staff so sweet and helpful. They have beach bikes, beach towels, pool, a real outside shower, hose to rinse off the sand, beach chairs and floaties for the kids plus a spa and washer & dryer. There is an area outside with a beautiful fire pit away from the pool area. One parking space per room which is $15 per night however you can walk literally everywhere. Parking in LaJolla is hard to find so this is perfect. It's very quiet + the rooms have blackout curtains for sleeping in. They serve coffee in the lobby or you can make your own with a Keurig in your room.

Staff, esp Alice and Tricia, were so friendly and helpful. Bed was very comfortable. Location was very handy for the beach, which was located at the end of the street, down a hill in an area that felt very safe. Less than 10 minute drive to La Jolla village. Everything was very clean and seems to have been recently renovated. Free parking available in their lot, could be right if you have a big car/truck. Wifi and AC work very well. We had no issues during our 2 night stay. Highly recommend.
